The Many Marvels of Mozzarella  -

25th June 2018

Frequently associated with freshness and flavour, mozzarella is one of the most popular cheeses in the world. It can be used as part of a pizza topping, an additional ingredient inside a burger or served as a side or on its own as a refreshing and healthy snack. Amongst its many food products in Malta, Hi Trading Malta also provides a selection of mozzarella cheese from the Belgian brand Milcobel. Have a look at why people love mozzarella so much and how it can be used in cooking.

It has many health benefits

Mozzarella is rich in Vitamin B2 and has a high content of important antioxidants. These nutrients are great for soothing and preventing ailments such as migraine headaches and anaemia. Apart from this, the cheese is also a great source of niacin and phosphorus, which help to convert fats into energy and promote healthy bones and teeth respectively.
Elements of protein and potassium are also found. The latter is a key mineral in lowering blood pressure, whilst protein is important for muscle strength and energises the entire body.

It’s greatly versatile:

Use it in a Salad
One of the great things about mozzarella is that its taste pairs easily with so many things. Prepare a bowl with shrimp salad and use mozzarella instead of feta cheese to change up the textures and make it a bit more exciting. Alternatively, you can absolutely never go wrong with tomatoes as a side – serve a fresh bunch with slices of mozzarella cheese, immersed in olive oil and sprinkled with basil. There’s nothing more heavenly or refreshing than this simple Mediterranean summer recipe.

It’s a Great Base for a Pizza Topping
You can’t really think of pizza without mozzarella cheese coming to mind! It’s one of the most traditional cheese bases, and not without reason too. Studies have actually proved that due to its elasticity, fluidity and flexibility when melted, it’s actually the best kind of cheese for pizzas. Additionally, its taste is highly adaptable so pairing it with other cheeses is also no problem – go ahead and experiment to your heart’s content!

Make a Tomato and Mozzarella Burger
No, we swear we didn’t make that up. This is a great veggie appetiser or snack – simply cut a roasted tomato into 2 halves and place a slice of mozzarella cheese in between. The heat from the tomato will melt the cheese nicely. Bon Appetit!

As one of the most diverse food importers in Malta, Hi Trading is proud to be a vendor of Milcobel’s new line of shredded and sliced mozzarella cheese. Milcobel is the leading dairy cooperative in Belgium and now has 9 sites in countries including France and the Netherlands. All milk used in its products is purchased from dairy farmers. So… mozza-we say it again? We love mozzarella cheese, and we hope that we’ve helped you rediscover your appreciation for it too!
